Serving the Local Community

Monday Lunches

A team of volunteers provide a light lunch of soup and rolls each Monday. The lunch is free and available to anyone who comes along. Food parcels are also given out from donations of food items from the parish.

Volunteers to either cook the soup or serve the soup are always welcome.

HICH

HICH is a community help group run by the local Christian Churches, and Mullum Mullum Parish is the Anglican partner. This is an incorporated Group with the Management Committee consisting of representatives from each of the churches.

Our core activity is to provide assistance to local families in difficulty. This is mainly in the form of a parcel of food that we hope that will last them for at least 3 days. The minimum size parcel for a small family is estimated to have a value of $80.00 and includes staple foods such as meat, vegetables, breakfast cereals, long life milk, baked beans, tins of spaghetti, bread and margarine.

The work we do is generally funded through donations and the operation of our OP SHOP located in the Heathmont Shopping Centre in Canterbury Road Heathmont.

We use only volunteer labour for the shop and the food distribution, however we do have operational cost to rent and maintain our shop in the.

We also assist families in difficulty with some minor grants generally through other agencies in the area who have the staff with skills that we do not (e.g. EACH) and we help with emergency housing etc., by working with other agencies operating in our area.

How can you help?

  • HICH shares the food donated at each of our services
  • Financial donation – direct to HICH or through the Mission of the Month envelopes.
  • Volunteers, we have about 100 volunteers involved in the Op Shop and the food distribution, but we are always in need of more people generally for the shop.
  • Donation of used goods for sale in the shop. The shop has a reputation for the quality of the goods that we sell, and if you have good quality clean clothes etc., we would love to receive them. A good test of the quality for donations is would you buy the goods if you found them in a shop.
